Telephone FAQs

Will my long distance calls be billed on my local telephone bill?
Yes, if you have DTI as your local service provider. If your local service provider is no DTI, DTI will then provide a seperate bill.

Are there any monthly fees?
The only recurring charge that will be on your bill is the National Access Fee. Aside from taxes and government-mandated fees, DTI avoids imposing extras like "service charges" or monthly minimum charges.

Will you cancel my previous long-distance service?
You will need to call your previous carrier to cancel your service with them — most companies will not terminate your account with them automatically even when the local telephone company informs them that you have switched carriers. However, DTI suggests that you do not cancel your previous long-distance plan until you receive our welcome letter. This welcome letter has a test number that you can call to make sure your service has been changed over to DTI. If you get a DTI recording, then call your previous carrier and make sure that your old account gets canceled. If you do not get our recording, we suggest that you call our office as soon as possible. Top of page

Can I get my bill charged to my credit card?
Yes, DTI accepts MasterCard, Visa, or Discover. Each month DTI will send you a copy of the bill and receipt in the mail. Top of page

Can I get my bill automatically deducted from my checking account?
Yes, DTI is able to handle this as well as automatic deductions from a savings account. Top of page

These calls that I didn't make — can you tell me who they belong to?
No. However, some Web sites have a "reverse lookup" capability, but note that unpublished or unlisted numbers are not likely to be identified this way.

What is an NA fee? I thought there were no monthly service charges!
This referrs to the National Access Fee (NAF) or Line Carrier Charge. This charge is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandated charge that all long distance carriers pay to local telephone companies. DTI's policy is indeed not to charge extra fees aside from those required by law or government regulation. Top of page

DSL FAQs

What is DSL?
DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line and is an "always on" technology that provides high speed and secure Internet connectivity over existing copper telephone wires.Top of page

Is it really so much faster than my dial-up modem?
It can be up to 35x faster. With DSL, surfing the web and sending e-mail occurs at speeds approaching instant. Downloading and uploading files with graphics and video can take just seconds.Top of page

Is DSL Reliable?
Yes. DSL is a dedicated line. In addition, DTI SHDSL service is bound by service level agreements that guarantee a specified level of performance.Top of page

What are other advantages?

Why is DSL such a good value?
Before DSL, dedicated high-speed service (such as a T-1 line) could cost over $1000 a month. End Users who didn°t want an expensive T-1 solution were left to suffer when downloading graphic-intensive web pages or e-mail's with large attachments, dramatically reducing efficiency, effectiveness, and their ability to make money. DSL is the answer to providing affordable, high-speed Internet access. Top of page

How does it compare to cable modems?
Cable has some inherent drawbacks. First, the cable network is shared, which means as the number of cable users increases the speed on each individual°s line decreases. Second, a shared network is less secure than a dedicated service like DSL, as neighboring cable customer can more easily intercept data or hack into another user's computer. Third, the upstream speed on a cable modems generally no higher than 256 Kbps. Top of page

How is DSL charged?
