DTI
Networking Services
DTI can help you setup a sophisticated network designed specifically
to fit your company's needs. Two methods which we commonly
used are Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and Wide Area Networks
(WAN).
A Wide Area Network (WAN) is an interconnected network of
LANs. If it is external to an organization, it may be set
up and administered by a provider company, such as DTI. It
links institutions through a fast network operating in a certain
geographical area. In addition, the WAN may be coupled to
other networks through a gateway and further communications
links.
VPN is one of the most used words in networking today and
has many different meanings. The broadest definition of a
VPN is "any network built upon a public network and partitioned
for use by individual customers". This results in public
DSL, frame relay, X.25, and ATM networks being considered
VPNs. These types of VPNs are generically referred to a layer
2 VPNs. The emerging form of VPNs are networks constructed
across shared IP backbones, referred to as "IP VPNs".
